A Unique Cultural and Devotional Event
The spread of Sufism in the 8th-9th centuries C.E. brought with it some of the most famous and beautiful poetry, ritual, and devotional music across the world by notable Sufis including Rumi, Hafiz, and Amir Khusro.
This event will showcase Sufi music, dance, and teachings of several regions of the world, through a combination of performance and education on how these arts were used to promote harmony between religions and castes.
Our "Sufi Music Around the World" series is dedicated to shining light on Sufi music and dance traditions of different parts of the world in an effort to bridge gaps between Muslim and non-Muslim communities in the USA. These events use the sacred arts as vehicles for greater peace, harmony, and understanding in our world.
The event series, produced in partnership with Doris Duke Islamic Foundation for the Arts, has featured national and international traditional and fusion Sufi performances including: Amir Vahab Ensemble(Turkey and Iran), Rimi Basu and Ensemble(India and Turkey), Azam Ali, Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan(India), Tumata Ensemble(Turkey), and more.
